Orange Marmalade
Orange marmalade is a classic homemade preserve with a balanced sweet and slightly bitter flavour. Made with fresh oranges and sugar, it is perfect for breakfast, desserts or spreading on toast. Simple and aromatic, it captures the freshness of citrus in every spoon.
Ingredients
- 1 kg oranges
- 800 g sugar
- 500 ml water
How to Make It
- Wash the oranges thoroughly
- Slice them thinly, removing seeds
- Place orange slices in a pot with water
- Bring to the boil and cook for about 10 minutes
- Drain and repeat the boiling step to reduce bitterness
- Return oranges to the pot with fresh water
- Add sugar and stir well
- Cook over medium heat for about 40 minutes
- Stir occasionally and remove any foam
- Test consistency on a cold plate
- Pour into sterilised jars while hot
- Seal and turn upside down until cooled
Tips
- Use unwaxed oranges if possible
- Slice thinly for better texture
- Stir regularly to prevent sticking
- Adjust sugar slightly to taste
Storage
- Store sealed jars in a cool place
- Once opened, keep refrigerated
