Mulled Wine

Mulled wine is a warm and fragrant drink made by gently heating red wine with sugar, citrus peel and spices. Rich, aromatic and comforting, it is perfect for cold evenings and festive gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 750 ml red wine
  • 100 g sugar
  • Peel of 1 orange
  • Peel of 1 lemon
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 cloves
  • 1 star anise, optional

How to Make It

  • Pour the red wine into a saucepan
  • Add the sugar and stir gently
  • Add the orange peel and lemon peel
  • Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves and star anise if using
  • Heat over low heat without boiling
  • Simmer gently for 15–20 minutes
  • Stir occasionally until the sugar has dissolved
  • Strain before serving
  • Serve hot

Tips

  • Do not let it boil, to preserve aroma and character
  • Adjust the sugar to your taste
  • Add extra spices if you prefer a deeper flavor
  • Serve immediately while hot

Storage

  • Best served fresh
  • Can be reheated gently once
