Lemon Marmalade
Lemon marmalade is a vibrant homemade preserve with a balanced citrus flavor and gentle bitterness. Perfect for breakfast, desserts or spreading on toast, this simple preparation captures the freshness of lemons in a classic Italian style.
Ingredients
- 1 kg lemons
- 800 g sugar
- 500 ml water
How to Make It
- Wash the lemons thoroughly
- Slice them thinly and remove seeds
- Place lemon slices in a pot with water
- Bring to a boil and cook for about 10 minutes
- Drain and repeat the boiling step once more
- Return lemons to the pot with fresh water
- Add sugar and stir well
- Cook over medium heat for about 40 minutes
- Stir occasionally and remove any foam
- Test thickness on a cold plate
- Pour into sterilised jars while hot
- Seal and turn upside down until cooled
Tips
- Use unwaxed lemons if possible
- Adjust sugar depending on lemon acidity
- Slice lemons thinly for better texture
- Stir regularly to prevent sticking
Storage
- Store sealed jars in a cool place
- Once opened, keep refrigerated
